건축가 김건철은 대구 출생으로, 영남고등학교와 계명대학교 건축공학과를 졸합하고, 경북대학교에서 건축학 석사 과정을 수료하였다. ADF건축, 동우건축, 아뜰리에17에서 실무 경험을 쌓은 뒤, 2011년 스마트건축을 설립하여 대구를 기반으로 활동하는 건축가이다.
풍경으로서의 건축, 건축의 평면성(Flatness) 그리고 두터움에 대해 고민하고 있으며, 맥락과 감각을 함께 아우르는 설계를 추구한다. 건축문화대상, 신진건축사대상, 대구시건축상, Architecture MasterPrize 등을 수상했으며, 주요작품으로는 '워킹인써클', '인스케이프', '깊은풍경-행정', '두산동 행정복지센터' 등이 있다.
Architect Geoncheol Kim was born in Daegu. He graduated from Yeongnam High School and the Department of Architectural Engineering at Keimyung University, and completed a master’s program in architecture at Kyungpook National University. After gaining professional experience at ADF Architecture, Dongwoo Architecture, and Atelier17, he founded Smart Architecture in 2011 and has since been working as an architect based in Daegu.
He explores themes such as architecture as landscape, the flatness and thickness of architecture, and pursues designs that integrate both context and sensibility. He has received numerous awards, including the Korea Architecture Culture Award, the Young Architect Award, the Daegu Architecture Award, and the Architecture MasterPrize. His major works include Walking in Circle, Inscape, Deep Landscape – Administration, and Dusan-dong Administrative Welfare Center.
