샤론 존스턴과 마크리가 설립한 존스턴 마크리는 개념적인 접근을 바탕으로 다양한 프로젝트를 선보여 왔다. 설계, 건축 기술, 재료 등을 도구로 적재적소에 활용하여 건축적 솔루션을 제시하며 고유의 작업 세계를 구축해왔다. 존스턴 마크리의 작업은 건축학의 역사와 근본에서 출발하면서도, 도시의 문화와 예술과 긴밀한 관계를 맺는 것으로 잘 알려져 있다. 1998년 설립 이후 예술을 비롯해 다양한 분야와 협업함으로써 설계의 깊이를 더해왔다.존스턴 마크리는 남미와 북미, 유럽, 아시아 등 14개국에 걸쳐 다양한 유형과 스케일의 프로젝트를 진행했다. 가장 최근 작업들로는 2023년 개관하는 뉴욕 그린위치의 휘트니 미술관 ISP 건물을 비롯하여, 2019년 완공된 캘리포니아 컬버 시티의 UCLA 대학원 스튜디오, 2017년 9월 재개관한 시카고 현대미술관 등이 있다. 2017년 시카고 건축 비엔날레 공동예술감독을 역임하기도 했다. 또한, 존스턴 마크리의 작업은 뉴욕 현대미술관, 시카고 아트 인스티튜트, 메닐 콜렉션, 샌프란시스코 현대미술관, 카네기 미술관, TU 뮌헨 건축 뮤지엄 등에 소장되어 있다.
Sharon Johnston, FAIA, and Mark Lee, founding partners of Los Angeles-based firm, Johnston Marklee, have developed a diverse portfolio unified by a conceptual approach to each project. Operating at the core of the discipline, the firm uses tools of design, building technology, and material applications to solve specific design challenges, resulting in singular works of architecture. The work of Johnston Marklee is recognized internationally for its engagement with arts and culture within the contemporary city, while being rooted in the history and foundations of the discipline. Since its establishment in 1998, the firm has drawn upon a network of collaborators in related fields and in the arts to deepen the context of design research.Projects undertaken by Johnston Marklee are diverse in scale and type, spanning fourteen countries.
